2026 Washington County Democratic Caucus

Purpose

With the election of Mike Master to the position of Washington County Commissioner for District 15, his position on the Washington County School Board is to be vacated. While the County Attorney is reviewing the implications and the subsequent process to be implemented by the School Board, one option is to designate a replacement via a special election on November 3. Because the race is partisan, county political parties, such as WCDP, would be required to hold a designation caucus to identify a candidate to place on the ballot by September 9. Due to the very short timeline, the crowded campaign schedule, and the lack of venue availability for such a caucus at convenient times, the WCDP officers voted to hold this caucus as part of the already-publicized Democratic event “Washington County Rising” of August 18. Please read on for logistical details.

Caucus Logistics & Agenda

The Caucus event will be held on Tuesday, August 18, starting at 6 pm at the Langston Centre Auditorium (map) in conjunction with the WCDP Washington County Rising volunteer appreciation and election celebration party

Caucus Agenda (tentative agenda – exact times will depend on the number of candidates and attendees)

• 5:30 pm – Doors open for credentialing
• 6:30 pm – Caucus is called to order
• (approx) 6:30 pm – Introduction to the Caucus and Credentialing Report
• (approx) 6:40 pm – Washington County School Board race: introduction, candidate speeches, caucusing for the top one candidate

For Candidates

There is one race open for candidate designation by the Washington County Democratic Party:

• Washington County School Board District 2 Member (1 seat open)

IMPORTANT: All candidates must fill out this form to express their candidacy by August 17 at 8 pm! Candidacies will not be accepted on Caucus Day.

Candidates must meet the requirements for elected office set forth by the State of Tennessee. You may check them out here.

Candidates do NOT need to withdraw papers (the paperwork will be filed by WCDP with the Election Commission after the Caucus).

For Voters

All Washington County voters are eligible to participate in the Caucus votes.

All voters must be credentialed to participate in the Caucus votes (that is, verified as a Washington County voter). You are encouraged to get pre-credentialed before the event by registering for the Washington County Rising event on Mobilize by clicking here. This will accelerate check-in. Otherwise, you will need to be credentialed on-site upon arrival.
