Rally for Reproductive Choice

April 9, 2019 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

Tuesday, April 9, 2019 the Senate Judiciary Committee will meet at 3 PM (CST) to vote on the “Heartbeat Bill.” A bill that has already been overturned in Kentucky and will waste taxpayer money in Tennessee in court.

Let’s rally for women! Let’s rally for choice!

Tuesday, April 9, 2019 from noon to 1 PM on the steps of the Johnson City Municipal and Safety Building.

Representative Micah Van Huss (R-Jonesborough) didn’t grow up with the women in his life dying as they sought reproductive options, as they sought doctors to perform abortions (medical procedures) in back alleys and in unsterile environments. You see, Roe v. Wade turned 46 turned this year. Representative Micah Van Huss is 40.

This session, the Tennessee General Assembly, has prioritized attacking women, removing their voices from government. We saw it when the Tennessee House Speaker, Glen Casada (R-Franklin), refused to call on Rep. Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville) when the House voted on the “Fetal Heartbeat Bill.”

This morning, I stood with women who fight every day to protect patient privacy and patient safety in Bristol, TN as members of 40 Days for Life harass patients, harass clinic workers, and try to insert their own personal agendas into another woman’s private medical decision.

Their full-frontal assault on women’s rights means it’s time for us to act! Tuesday, April 9, the Tennessee Senate Judicial Committee is voting on the Fetal Heartbeat Bill. The Tennessee General Assembly is working to amend a “trigger’ abortion bill that would criminalize abortion if the US Supreme Court overturned Roe V. Wade.
