The Washington County Democratic Party (WCDP) strongly condemns the recent acts of vandalism and theft targeting campaign signs supporting the Harris-Walz ticket. The defacing and removal of these signs is not only disrespectful but undermines the democratic process in our community.
Political campaigns are an opportunity for civil discourse and debate, and all candidates and their supporters deserve the right to participate in the political process without fear of harassment or destruction of their property.
“The actions against the Harris-Walz campaign signs are a direct attack on free speech and the values we hold dear as Americans,” said Sylvain Bruni, Chair of the Washington County Democratic Party. “We call on all individuals to respect the right to engage in this democratic process without resorting to vandalism or theft.”
WCDP has filed police reports in both Jonesborough and Johnson City, and urges local law enforcement to increase patrols around voting sites, investigate these incidents, and hold those responsible accountable for their actions. Furthermore, we encourage residents to stand united in promoting respect, fairness, and tolerance during this election season.
The Washington County Democratic Party calls on our community to reject these acts of vandalism and engage in constructive, respectful dialogue as we approach Election Day.
