Local Democratic Convention Energizes Base and Elevates Community Voices

The Washington County Democratic Party (WCDP) held its Biennial Reorganization Convention on Saturday, March 22, drawing over 100 energized community members in a powerful show of unity, momentum, and commitment to democratic values. The convention marked a significant milestone for the local Party, with more candidates seeking leadership roles than ever before—underscoring a renewed wave of civic engagement across the county.

“This convention exceeded all expectations,” said newly re-elected WCDP Chair Sylvain Bruni. “The energy in the room was undeniable. We are building a Democratic Party in Washington County that is inclusive, courageous, and deeply connected to the issues people care about. The future is brighter because our community is ready to lead.”

A full slate of five officers and 15 Executive Committee (EC) members was elected during the proceedings, including a diverse mix of experienced leaders and passionate newcomers. This year’s unprecedented level of interest reflects the community’s growing desire to shape the future of Washington County and Tennessee through bold, people-centered leadership.

For the first time, the convention also featured an open floor conversation, offering attendees the opportunity to voice new ideas and policy priorities for the Party. Key themes included supporting civic protests, standing up to protect our democracy and public services, organizing community town hall meetings, engaging with all voters through door-knocking, promoting unity, multiplying our impact with partner organizations, and combating the influence of money in politics.
