Two Johnson City Residents Become Delegates to the Democratic Presidential Convention

Jenny Batt and Sylvain Bruni elected by peers to represent Northeast Tennessee in Chicago this summer

 The Washington County Democratic Party (WCDP) is proud to share that two of its members were elected Congressional District Delegates to the Democratic Presidential Convention to be held in Chicago, August 19-22, 2024. Jenny Batt and Sylvain Bruni, both Johnson City residents, became Delegates for the first congressional district of Tennessee at a local Democratic Convention held in Tusculum this past Saturday, April 6.

Over 100 local Democrats gathered on the campus of Tusculum University for the quadrennial selection of congressional district delegates. Washington County was represented with the largest contingent of Democrats.  Batt and Bruni received the most votes respectively in the first round of voting for female delegates and the second round of voting for male delegates. They join Sharon Hart of Carter County and Terry Marek of Sullivan County as the first congressional district’s members of the Tennessee delegation to the Democratic National Convention.

“I was honored to be selected as a delegate and I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to participate in this historic event,” said Jenny Batt. “As a delegate, I am eager to contribute to shaping our party’s platform and advocating for policies that promote equality, justice, and progress for all Americans.”

“The Convention was incredibly energizing and demonstrated the vitality of the Democratic Party in our rural region,” said Sylvain Bruni. “I thank all the Democratic Selectors who supported my candidacy and look forward to representing the first district in Chicago!”
