The Women of the Washington County Democratic Party are deeply disappointed by the image shared by the Washington County Republican Party (WCRP) depicting conservative women holding babies alongside the statement that “liberal women abort their babies.”
This is not thoughtful political discourse. It is cruel, divisive, and demeaning to women in our community.
Women’s lives, pregnancies, families, and reproductive decisions cannot be reduced to a political meme. Women across the political spectrum have experienced infertility, miscarriage, complicated pregnancies, life-threatening medical emergencies, adoption, abortion, and the heartbreak of losing desperately wanted children. None of us knows the private circumstances another woman has faced.
We can disagree strongly about public policy while still treating one another with basic dignity and humanity.
The Women of the Washington County Democratic Party reject this kind of rhetoric. We will continue advocating for our values without degrading women who believe differently from us.
Our community deserves political leadership that debates ideas without attacking the humanity of the people on the other side.
We are different in our beliefs. We are not different in our worth.
