Three Washington County residents are candidates to be Democratic National Convention Delegates for Tennessee
(Jonesborough, Tenn.) – On Saturday, March 16, the Washington County Democratic Party (WCDP) held its 2024 County Convention at the McKinney Center in Jonesborough, as part of the process of choosing Delegates to the Democratic National Convention (DNC) this August in Chicago, IL.
“The purpose of the County Convention is to designate the Selectors from Washington County who will vote and select our congressional district’s Delegates within the Tennessee delegation to the DNC this summer” explained Sylvain Bruni, Chair of WCDP. “Democratic Selectors from all Northeast Tennessee counties will gather for the Congressional District Convention in Greeneville on April 6 to elect our 4 congressional district Delegates.”
Washington County Democrats designated 25 Selectors, including 16 women, seven men, and two gender-non-binary individuals. The contingent includes a record 10 members of traditionally underrepresented groups, including members of the LGBTQ+, Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, disability, and youth communities.
The proceedings of the County Convention further highlighted the candidacies of three Washington County residents to be congressional district Delegates: Jenny Batt, Brad Batt, and Sylvain Bruni (all of Johnson City).
“We are so proud of our community and the dedication of our Selectors and candidates,” said Cindy Humphries, Treasurer of WCDP and lead organizer of the County Convention. “Together, they will bring the voice of Washington County to Chicago!”
The Congressional District Convention will be held at Tusculum University in Greeneville on Saturday, April 6. The Democratic National Convention will be held in Chicago, August 21-23.
