Republican Officials’ Reckless Response Undermines The Rule Of Law
On May 30, a jury of 12 Americans convicted former President Trump of 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The Washington County Democratic Party (WCDP) believes this judgment holds him accountable for his interference in free and fair elections. It exemplifies how, in the United States, no one is above the law.
Further, WCDP deplores the response of elected Republican officials in Tennessee, whose statements vie to undermine our justice system. Instead of defending law and order, due process, and judicial proceedings, they rushed to make false and extreme accusations, even defending the ground-level crimes of election interference and defrauding voters! WCDP condemns Senator Blackburn and Congresswoman Harshbarger’s unfounded statements claiming political persecution. The Senator and the Congresswoman, herself embroiled in an ethics investigation related to alleged political manipulation and financial impropriety to interfere in the Republican primary process, should focus on serving her constituents, not groveling for a felon ex-president.
