WCDP urges an open and accountable process for filling the expected vacant seat following Mayor Hunter’s resignation
The Washington County Democratic Party (WCDP) calls on the Johnson City Commission to ensure that the process for filling the vacant seat to be left by Mayor John Hunter following his resignation is transparent, accountable, and open to community participation.
“As neighbors and residents, we deserve a process that reflects fairness, integrity, and trust,” said Sylvain Bruni, Chair of WCDP. “The appointment should not be rushed or predetermined behind closed doors. Commissioners must give the public an opportunity to weigh in, and prospective candidates should be invited to step forward openly.”
The Johnson City Commission will hold a working session on Thursday, October 2, at 3 pm to determine how to proceed in selecting a new Commissioner to complete the unexpired term. Later that evening, at 6 pm, the Commission will convene for its regular meeting. Both sessions will take place at the Municipal and Safety Building.
WCDP encourages residents to attend these meetings, observe the process, and make their voices heard. Community involvement is essential to restoring trust in local leadership and ensuring decisions are made in the best interest of all Johnson City residents, especially in these times when transparency of our local government is often in question.
