The Washington County Democratic Party (WCDP) expresses its dismay at Tennessee Republicans’ obsession with canceling freedoms for the transgender community after having canceled women’s rights and reproductive freedoms in the previous legislative session. As reported by the press, this proposed anti-trans bill would deny medical freedoms in selecting care options, particularly for transgender youth in our state. This cruel bill further denies access to care for Tennesseans, particularly those most vulnerable in our communities. And it is sponsored or supported by all our state-level elected officials in Washington County.
“Washington County Democrats reaffirm our strong support to the transgender community in our state and denounce this ill-conceived and -intended bill, which flies in the face of patient rights and healthcare professionals’ guidance;” said Sylvain Bruni, chair of WCDP. “Why are State Representatives Rebecca Alexander and Tim Hicks and State Senator Rusty Crowe focusing their energies on attacking trans youth instead of fixing the Department of Children’s Services, so it provides decent and safe living conditions for those children in its care?”
WCDP invites the public (as well as Representatives Alexander and Hicks and Senator Crowe) to join us on Tuesday, January 10th, for our non-partisan, educational Forum on Diversity and Inclusion in Appalachia, starting at 6:30 pm at the Carver Recreation Center’s Community Room (322 W. Watauga Ave., Johnson City, TN 37604).
